The Suffolk Art League, Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, and Suffolk Tourism are excited to present the 5th annual Suffolk Plein Air Festival. This five-day event draws national Plein Air artists to Suffolk, Virginia, to immerse themselves in Suffolk's historic downtown, along pristine waterfronts, and amongst beautiful rural landscapes. Through this immersion, one-of-a-kind paintings are created and offered for sale on September 12th at the annual Wet Paint Sale & Soiree.
The Suffolk Plein Air Festival celebrates the French "open air" (plein air) painting tradition, where artists create works outdoors. Attendees can watch artists paint at various locations, observe their techniques, and purchase freshly created pieces at the Wet Paint Sale. The festival also features a Quick Draw competition, showcasing the immediacy of plein air painting. Through these events, the festival promotes art accessibility and educates the community about this important art movement.
